This is a photograph of a path through the Elberta Beach dunes leading to lake Michigan on a partly cloudy day. The “IR” in the title means Infra Red which means the sensor in the camera is only “sees” the infra red wave length of the light spectrum rather than the “visible light” wave lengths. Photographers can achieve a faux-infra red look with filters on a regular digital camera or in software in post production. I had a Nikon D300s body permanently modified so it only is sensitive to infra red light. The apperance of green foliage in particular, are rendered as white rather than dark in a tradional black and white photograph. To my eye it adds a slight surreal aspect to an image because it’s not what we are generally accustomed to the way we see.
