Watervale is a lovely resort on the shore of Lower Herring Lake in Benzie County, Michigan. It has a number of charming cottages to rent and a wonderful restaurant with swimming and boating plus perfect sandy beach on Lake Michigan. I don’t get out there and shoot and often as I should. Watervale is a real throw back to a couple of decades ago of a not over developed up north vacation resort. It’s simple and restful. Period. This was a very nice sunrise panoramic setup on the beach in front of a cottage. Everything is on the beach as I found it just the way the vacationing family left it the night before.
This sunrise is on Little Platte Lake also in Benzie County. It is a fairly small lake, not too deep but another beautiful vacation place here. Because it’s a shallow fishing lake it’s slower and quieter than the larger lakes here; not so many speed boats and personal water craft. There are only 2 public access points on Little Platte and this is one of them on the morning of July 7th. Both photos here are with my usual gear: Nikon D700, Nikkor 24-70 f2.8, Really Right Stuff tripod & Manfrotto head. Both shots are HDR compositions with all work done in Nik HDR Efex and CS6.
