Lone Trees and Farm On Stormer Road in Leelanau County, Michigan
I had to go over to Stormer Road just across the Benzie county line in Leelanau county line to photograph these trees I’ve been keeping my eye on. We’d have a nice snow overnight with little wind so the snow settled very nicely over everything. I’d been noticing the trees out in a field alone and distanced from the woods behind for some time and the conditions seemed right to get this shot I had in mind. It was still snowing with gave me the fade and blur for the woods behind the trees that I needed. I shot this tripod mounted with my D700 (my D800 had to go to Nikon for more service), 70-200 mm f2.8 @ 150mm, 1/1250, f2.8, manual mode with +.67 compensation and iso 100.
A short distance down the road is this lovely barn complex and farmhouse. All of this property is part of the Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore. I’m not sure if the park rangers really use it for anything. I do see park vehicles there in summer months so perhaps it’s used as housing for summer staff. The barns are nicely cared for and very iconic looking. This shot is a four frame stitch in photoshop. D700, 24-70mm lens at 24mm for each frame. f16, 1/200, +.67 EV, iso 800.
