Steve and Ann Loveless win First Place at ArtPrize 2015
October 24, 2015
I’m very proud to announce that my wife Ann and myself won the Grand Prize Public Vote Award at ArtPrize® in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 9th, 2015.
Our entry was a combination of my photography with my wife’s amazing fine art textile quilt technique which merged together in a new process we call PhotoFiber™. An’s win in 2013 makes her the first two time ArtPrize winner, together we are the first collaborative team to win and I am the first photographer to win.
The final size is 5 feet tall and 25 feet wide. From left to right the composition begins as a photographic print and begins to gradually morph into a textile. About 2/3 of the way across it becomes entirely fabric. There are many photographic elements inkjet printed onto various canvas and cotton broadcloth fabrics that are sewn into the dyed batik fabrics that Ann generally composes with. The scene is a lovely spring sunrise in Benzie County with a woods full of Trillium. The photograph “half” was made in a three row multi-row panoramic shooting configuration. I used my Nikon D-800E and Nikon 14-24mm lens at 20mm, f16, 1/100sec, -1EV. The support was my RSS TVC2 tripod, manfrotto 468MGRC2 ball head and RRS Pano and gimbal mounts.
What is ArtPrize® you ask? In their own words from www.artprize.org “ArtPrize® is a radically open, independently organized international art competition and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
For 19 days, three square miles of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, become an open playing field where anyone can find a voice in the conversation about what is art and why it matters. Art from around the world pops up in every inch of downtown, and it’s all free and open to the public.
It’s unorthodox, highly disruptive, and undeniably intriguing to the art world and the public alike.
ArtPrize Seven took place September 23 – October 11, 2015
